In commemoration of the life and career of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, the @nehki.Falastini social media platform presents a tribute concert at the American University in Dubai on Saturday 20th May at 8:00 pm.
The show will feature Palestinian-American artist Lina Makoul performing a special music program that includes the late journalists’ favorite songs as told by those who were closest to her. As well as her own songs with a special composition dedicated to Shireen using her voice.
Lina will share the stage with Dubai-based musician Kamal Musallam, who will present a special music performance dedicated to the memory of his classmate Shireen.
We are also proud to invite the talented voices of ‘One Harmony’ by Tania Kassis Academy in Dubai, who will open the show with the UAE National Anthem along with their own inspiring songs in both Arabic and English.
As a community education initiative hosted by American University in Dubai, a pioneer institution in the field of media and journalism, we are proud to have with us celebrity news anchor Mohammad Abu Obeid, who will share his vast experience in journalism and some of the challenges he faced over the years.
The event is presented by Nehki Falastini, founded by Mayssoun Azzam; in collaboration with Ghida Halaby, leader of the Dubai Reading Community DXBOOKLOVE. About the ceremony, Azzam says “Shireen is no longer an ordinary name but a people’s message that she carried throughout her life, abruptly handed to us on the day she became a martyr. Shireen gave us a voice of truth, and it is our duty to keep her legacy alive today and eternally.”
Tickets will be on sale exclusively at Platinumlist UAE until the day of the event. Gather from 6 pm to browse the Palestine-themed design souk by Neveen ElKady, Balchi, Yasmina Adra, and special edition Madeena the Doll from Jordan, and grab a fresh meal from food stalls by Yava Dubai, Kaak al Manara, Mishkah Olive Cafe, and The Broth Lab.
