Joan MacDonald – the 76-year-old fitness influencer

A fitness influencer you should be following.

Fitness influencer

You may have seen many fitness influencers appear on your homepage on social media, but you have never seen a 76-year-old fully fit trainer. Well, meet trainwithJoan aka Joan!

Joan is a 76-year-old trainer with 1.6 million followers on Instagram, over 44 thousand on her Facebook page, and over 82 thousand on her YouTube channel.

It all began at the age of 70 that the fitness trainer made the decision to change her way of life through exercising and working on her nutrition. Her daughter Michelle encouraged Joan to work on herself and now, Joan shares tips and tricks to the world where she posts squat videos, ab workouts, and easy way to tone your arms through Instagram Reels.

In an interview with Shape, Joan tells them “I’m very slow, so it takes me almost double the time to finish a regular workout. I just get my workout out of the way first thing in the morning. So, usually every day at about 7 a. m I head to the gym, then I have the rest of the day to work on other things on my schedule.”

When should you workout?

Just like Joan and other fitness influencers we have seen, getting your workout done in the morning sets you off for the rest of the day. Whether or not you’re a morning person, you will start to see a difference and realise that after work, you have the rest of the day to do whatever you like, more energy to do things, and maybe even do another workout set, depending on what gym or fitness routine you set yourself.

Diet planning

In the article, Joan also explains “when I started, I was probably eating less than I do now, but I was eating the wrong things. Now I eat more, (five small meals a day), and I continue to lose weight and feel better overall.” Inevitably, diet planning goes hand-in-hand with your fitness regime, as you could be working out 3 times a day but it wouldn’t make a difference if you’re not strict or working on what foods you’re eating alongside it.

Take a look at what you’re eating and look into meal plans and protein shakes if that helps towards your workout. Understand what your goal is and work towards that goal with small, positive changes. There may be a struggle in the beginning, but in the long-run, it’s worth it.

Joan now has the all-clear from the doctors, not having to worry about any health issues at the age of 76. Put yourself first, then schedule in everything else after.
