Editor’s Choice: Fashion inspiration for August 2023

It’s time to clear out your wardrobe and bring your new fashion line in!

Fashion Inspiration August 2023: Editor's Pick

Are you looking to switch up the fashion contents in your wardrobe?

Sometimes it’s needed to have a clearout once in a while as overbuying can lead to clutter and unused wear of clothing. After I rummage through my closet and fill up bags of items, I like to re-organise everything (my life) and feel so much better after. One thing I like to do however, and that may be a cheeky guilty pleasure is scrolling through my Instagram and looking for my own fashion trends to follow.

Fashion is all about individuality and creating your own persona, look, and style. It is how you are first presented to someone when they see you or meet you. Have you ever sat in front of your wardrobe, and thought, is this me?

I have looked at what’s trending online and put together some fashion pointers. If you’re wondering what to wear for your next brunch, or packing to go abroad, then this may give you a guide on what’s hot and what I’ve personally got my eyes on.

Remember the year 2000? Think of Destiny’s Child in crop tops, Cristina Aguilera’s hip-hanger cargo pants, or Chad Michael Murray – well him just to look at in A Cinderella Story. But even the men wore bold colours with a printed t-shirt and baggy denim jeans, and guess what, it’s back in fashion this Summer of 2023. Take a look at some Y2K fashion inspiration from these Arab fashionistas:

Mony HelallReading or wearing a newspaper …printed dress

Rabih Rowell – hitting the brief perfectly, Rabih styles himself in a printed oversized shirt, and baggy black jeans, with the black long-sleeved cut-out t-shirt as the base layer. A single earring is the perfect cherry on top to complete this look.

Sara Al Humiri – ‘Bold and Bad’ indeed wearing a strapless, burnt orange dress, fluid drifting ruffles with deep cuts in the hemline.

Barbie Pink

Not that this category needs any explaining, but we all know everyone is currently (or has been for a while), on the Barbie phase. We have been crossing paths with many fashion and beauty trends since the news of the Barbie movie release, and now the film has hit the UAE cinema screens, pink is your new shrink. Rather than giving you a list of influencers who are wearing pink, let me give you professional fashion stylists themselves.

Seher Khan – Giving us a Y2K Barbie look, 2-in-1!

Tamara Farra – In a carrousel of looks for the Barbie Movie debut.

Arm Candy

Arm candy is a skill. Rather than throwing on different bangles and bracelets, you can build it up over time. Start with your watch, then begin to assemble around it picking either gold bracelets and chains or silver. A few influencers are seen with arm candy in their posts including celebrity influencer Molly Mae and Dubai-based influencer Hala Owais.

Molly Mae Hague – Because one isn’t enough…

Hala Owais – Putting the B in Bling

Slice a Slit

Whether it’s a deep cut in a skirt, a cutout dress by the waist, or even slits in your trousers, it’s a vibe. There is something about the slits and cuts that add character to your outfit – the best way to choose what slit to wear when is, high slits are better for evening wear and moderate slits for the daytime. Follow that rule of thumb!

Lillie Grace – Follow the lines. The perfect Summer dress which might be causing the heat wave 🥵

Ritu Pamnani – *Ring ring* “Hi Ken, it’s Barbie”

Printed Scarves

Scarves are an underrated fashion clothing item or accessory in the Summer and I would like to give them a voice! If you’re thinking of heavy, cotton, snug scarves, then think again – I’m talking about the satin or silky scarves to wrap around your head or shoulders as a statement piece. Not only does that add essence to your wardrobe, but also has a sense of elegance to any fit.

Aman Dhami – My “confessions of a shopaholic scarf” from Turkey where a ran back and pushed through the crowds in Grand Bazaar to purchase this scarf.

Samira Safi – No need for a necklace, I have another accessory…

Remember, fashion is whatever you want it to be – the above is a guide, but switch it up and make it your own. Tag me in your fashion posts on Instagram @aman.dhami and @itplive.
