After nearly a decade in her position as CEO of the video platform YouTube, Susan Wojcicki is stepping down from her position.
Marketing Manager
Susan Wojcicki, now aged 54, has been a crucial player inside YouTube for 25 years. When she first joined the company, Susan started as a Marketing Manager, before jumping from role to role, learning about the structure of the business and helping to develop Google’s image search, as well as leading and managing teams. In 2014, she was then repeatedly given the position of Chief Executive of YouTube, optimising the platform and working on the rise of the social media channel’s main video destination for creators, advertisers, businesses, and more.
Attending Personal Matters
In a recent blog post, Susan stated that she plans to focus on her family, her health, and her personal projects while still maintaining a professional relationship with YouTube. Susan will remain in her position as part of the Salesforce with Neal Mohan, the Chief Product Officer as the new head of YouTube. “This time is right for me, and I feel able to do this because we have an incredible leadership team in place at YouTube,” said Susan.
The Next Phase
With the rapid leadership changes, YouTube’s advertising business has seen a drop as the video platform begins to emphasise subscription packages. Ad revenue has shown to fall by 7.8% in the fourth quarter from the same period in 2021 with another drop in the third quarter.
YouTube last year reported $29.2 billion in advertising revenue last year and has recently dived more into TV by creating an online marketplace for streaming services. They also struck a deal that was reportedly around $2 billion a year for the NFL’s Sunday Ticket franchise.
It will be interesting to see what new initiatives Neal Mohan will introduce and the changes we expect to see with YouTube, the team, and the overall app.
