TikTok turns pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2022 with its #PinkMonth hashtag

Social media platforms have turned pink this month so you should be too!

Breast Cancer Awareness month 2022

According to Statista, ‘In 2020, the number of new breast cancer cases amongst women in the United Arab Emirates totaled 1,030. In that year, the total number of new cancer cases of the general population was at over 4.8 thousand, and there were 1,896 cancer deaths.’

In a report by the UAE government, the list on the website showed the top 5 cancers in females are breast, leukemia, colorectal, thyroid, and uterus. It is important to show the research of how many people are being diagnosed with the medical condition, before understanding the symptoms and sharing your knowledge with others.

Together we RISE

This year’s theme for Breast Cancer Awareness month is RISE. Together we RISE to ensure every woman has access to the screenings she needs and the support she deserves. It’s so important to talk and to have conversations about Breast Cancer as some women feel nervous, anxious, shame, or even oblivious to it being there.

As influencers and content creators, your voice means everything and it is your voice that sheds impact on important topics such as this. There are different ways you can spread awareness this month before the 13th of October, and listed are some of the ways you can do so.

Positively Pink

Have you seen social media platforms light up in baby pink? Neon pink? Glittery pink? Now you know why. It is probably because of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. TikTok has created a campaign for the month called #PinkMonth which is currently trending and everyone is getting involved. If you are looking for some ideas on what to post this month, then take a look below for some inspiration.

Personal Stories

Although it’s difficult opening up on social media and maybe something completely new to you, sharing a personal story can really bring in a new audience. It allows your followers to share an experience with you and gives them a chance to be able to connect with you on a deeper level. If you have ever shared anything personal, have you noticed the difference in likes, comments, and saves? If you have had breast cancer, going through it right now, know someone who has had it, or educating yourself on the topic then share it with your followers. You never know who it might save.

Think Pink

Pink up your feed! If you don’t want to share a personal story, then why not create a pink feed for the week? It would be a fun, creative challenge for you to think “outside the box” and plan an exciting shoot.

Show your support

Whether or not you have had breast cancer, show your support in a short video. Mahmoud does this perfectly by wearing a pink shirt and the pink ribbon that symbolising breast cancer awareness month, telling his followers ‘You are Powerful.’

Create your own movement

Remember the ‘no make selfie’ trend that went viral all over the world? People shared videos of them taking off their makeup and others shared pictures without any products on. Why don’t you create a movement for breast cancer awareness and tag a friend to create a chain? You never know, it might go viral!

Run a marathon

If you would rather act on creating awareness about breast cancer, then run a marathon. If there isn’t any happening in your area, then create your own. Raise funds by creating a JustGiving page, and give yourself a target. This is a great challenge for you but also will help to raise money towards a breast cancer charity for them to use it for research purposes.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer

Mayo Clinic has noted that the symptoms to look out for are:

  • A breast lump or thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissue
  • Change in the size, shape, or appearance of a breast
  • Changes to the skin over the breast, such as dimpling
  • A newly inverted nipple
  • Peeling, scaling, crusting, or flaking of the pigmented area of the skin surrounding the nipple (areola) or breast skin
  • Redness or pitting of the skin over your breast, like the skin of an orange
