So, Versace and Fendi collaborated

And they called it ‘Fendace’.

So, Versace and Fendi collaborated

Two of fashion’s powerhouses – Versace and Fendi have ‘swapped’ creative direction for Milan Fashion Week 2021. Following 2021’s first luxury collabration of the year ‘Aria’ was presented by two powerhouses – Gucci and Balenciaga. ‘Fendace’ was not too late to follow.

Celebrities in Attendance were – Cole Sprouse, Chiara Ferragni along with her spouse and Singer, Fedez. Global and Award-winning Singer, Dua Lipa (who also modelled at a fashion show for the first time in her life), Demi Moore, Winnie Harlow, joined by Evan Mock and many more.“It’s a first in the history of fashion: two designers having a true creative dialogue that stems from respect and friendship. It led to us swapping roles to create these two collections,” Versace spoke of the partnership, while Jones added, “Friends, idols, mentors… It’s the beauty of togetherness.”

This official announcement by Versace has got 211,847 likes within 14 hours of it’s release. Captioned, “Fabulous Friends – The Swap presented @mrkimjones’s vision for Versace and @donatella_versace’s interpretation of Fendi. This is not a collaboration. The coming together of two iconic fashion brands in this way presents a unique moment in fashion and a first for the industry. Both a celebration of Italian fashion and a disruption of the established order of things, the swapping of roles stands for freedom, fun and friendship. #VersaceFendiSwap #Fendace #MFW

The creative direction was not a marriage, instead was two different people working on each other’s project kind os a situation. Meaning, ‘Versace by Fendi’ and ‘Fendi by Versace’. The runway collection was described not as a ‘collaboration’ but as a ‘swap’, where the creative directors switched their roles to design looks for one another.

‘Versace by Fendi’ was inspired by the mid-to-late ’90s while fusing Fendi’s Monogram pattern with Versace’s Greek Medusa motif. On the other hand, ‘Fendi by Versace’ was influenced by Punk Rock. We spotted materials like chainmails used alongside lace. Fendi’s F-shaped Monogram was reimagined with crystal-encrusted details throughout.

Brands have now learnt to advertise so well! The biggest brands collaborating with other big brands to create iconic pieces is the highlight of 2021 in the history of fashion. These pieces are also designed in a way that the sell quickly.

The collection designed by Fendi on Versace (think of this as your friend doing your homework for you) added elements of golden safety pins and clips (very Versace) over the classic simple-silhouette achromatic lacy (Fendi) look. The looks were a combination of your typical Fall Winter-wear and then there were hints of Resort wear too. With lines blurring between what’s summer and what’s winter now – we are welcoming Resort wear in fall too. (because you can still style them)
