Think twice before selling face masks on the platform

Facebook Has Banned... Face Masks?!?

Regret stocking up on face masks? Realized they probably weren’t a necessity when stockpiling goods at your local grocery store? You can forget about trying to resell them on certain social media platforms.

Facebook recently announced it has banning the sale of face masks across its platform.

According to The Drum, the social networking giant has “. . . become the latest major tech giant to introduce a ban on the sale of surgical face masks as part of a concerted effort to prevent unscrupulous vendors from exploiting public coronavirus panic. The blanket measure will outlaw all such advertisements posted on the social network in addition to peer-to-peer trading on Facebook Marketplace.”

Due to international health concerns face masks have been sold out in a number of cities across the globe, with shoppers panic buying dozens of boxes in one transaction.

“We’re banning ads and commerce listings selling medical face masks,” Facebook’s director of product management Rob Leathern said.

“We’re monitoring Covid-19 closely and will make necessary updates to our policies if we see people trying to exploit this public health emergency. We’ll start rolling out this change in the days ahead,” Leathern said.
