Singer Bryan Adams has apologized for his social media rant which has now gone viral.
The ‘Summer of 69’ crooner took to his Instagram page, where he has over 780,000 followers, to share a video of himself singing with a caption that blames ‘bat eating people’ for the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The post ,which is still present on the star’s page interestingly enough, has been slammed by fans who have accused him of promoting racist views. Comments on his page have been disabled, however.
His comments sparked immediate backlash online, with “Bryan Adams” trending on Twitter Tuesday.
“Looks like someone’s views on race are stuck in the summer of ’69,” one person tweeted.
Although some fans did come to his defense clamining that he did not technically single out any race in his rant.
As a Chinese Canadian, I don't think what Bryan Adams said was racist. He didn't even name Chinese people specifically and to me it sounds like he only meant the people actually at fault for the virus, not Chinese people as a whole. #BryanAdamsIsCancelled
