The UAE Government Media Office launches “A WINTER THROUGH MY EYES”, a unique perspective that shares a touching story of a winter holiday in the UAE to promote “The World’s Coolest Winter”
There is no better way to experience the UAE than during the cool winter season when temperatures drop dramatically. The UAE’s tourism recovered the quickest globally, and with restrictions in place, feeling the magic of the seven emirates again was a unique event for each individual. The rich history, geography, nature reserves, urban architecture, community, cultural centers, historical landmarks, offer visitors a holistic experience. For one, the experience was exceptionally invigorating.
The UAE Government Media Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and relevant tourism and culture entities, introduced “The World’s Coolest Winter” campaign in 2021 celebrating and promoting the UAE’s most beautiful tourism hidden gems. In 2022, the campaign has returned in its second iteration with a moving, real-life story with a young protagonist.
Bright colours, movements, and silhouettes are what the eyes feast on, but what about when it’s absolute darkness? It’s hard to be mindful when there are so many distractions happening every second of the day and therefore why sharing an alternative perspective of a young blind girl named Clara, was the perfect way to show the beauty of the UAE.
“A Winter Through My Eyes” promoted over social media, is an uplifting short documentary starting by asking viewers if a country can truly be enjoyed by someone who cannot see. Although travel influencers promote the beauty and wonders of the places, this film puts a unique spin to travel marketing. It tells the story of an 11-year-old girl Clara, who has been visually impaired since birth and who was given the opportunity to enjoy “The World’s Coolest Winter” in the UAE.
On her first trip abroad, Clara was flown to the UAE in an all-expenses-paid trip across the 7 diverse Emirates. Over a one-week period, the young adventurer experienced the country’s distinctive destinations and hospitality with a production crew following her every day to capture the unfiltered and authentic reaction to everything.

Sharing her experience, Clara said, “This winter the UAE was the first country I’ve ever traveled to and in just one week, I’ve enjoyed an entire lifetime.” She added, “Do you know what I learned? When you really want to feel something, we don’t need to look with our eyes, we need to look with our hearts. So, even if I cannot see, it’s everything I have felt here that has helped me see so much more.”
Khaled AlShehhi, Executive Director of New Media and Visual Production at UAE Government Media Office echoed Clara’s response and said, “To truly feel something, you don’t need to open your eyes, but your heart. The UAE made this point vividly. People of determination have a special bond with their surroundings and relate to them in ways most of us can’t appreciate. Yet, bearing their needs in mind will ensure we provide a truly magical, meaningful, and memorable experience for everyone.”
