The clip shows Sam Chui at the beginning telling us traveling in the Summer of 2022 is bad, before showing us scenes with people queuing, delays, cancellations, and overall frustration at the airport and on airlines.

Sam Chui uploaded a longer version on his YouTube channel which has now received 774k views and is Sam telling us 10 useful tips on how we can avoid airline delays. These are the points we got from the video:

1. Travel on non-stop flights without connecting flights

By booking non-stop flights, you will avoid having to deal with the hassle of swapping over. With the airports being busy this time of year, there can be causes of lost luggage, delays in the swap over, and delays in people getting onto the plane because of any other issues that occur.

2. Morning flights are recommended

Sam notes that morning flights are recommended than booking an evening flight. If you travel in the morning, the flights are prepared for landing on time whereas the afternoon and evening flights will have more of a delayed effect than the morning flights if there is any delay.

3. Consider other modes of transport if traveling short distances

If you are traveling a short distance, then think about using a train, car or coach to get there. Do you really want to be delayed for hours when you can travel in peace? Think about the route and if it is doable before booking a flight as it may save you a lot of time and frustration.

4. Download the airline app you are traveling with

It is so important to get updates and the best way to know what is happening with your flight or the airline you are traveling with, download the airline’s app. This will help you to stay on top of what you need to do, what is happening, and general news and information that may be important to your flight.

5. Monitor the airport website

If you don’t have the app, then make sure to monitor the website. There may be information on the website that is not on the app which is important to know. Refresh the page as you stay updated on the website.

6. Check-in online

To avoid queing, check-in online. By checking in online, you save so much more time and can easily and quickly go into the airport, and through security. Checking-in will reduce your waiting time and make the journey feel that little more at ease. It also helps if you are running late for a flight that you have already checked-in as it’s one less thing to do!

7. Try to pack light

Chances of losing your bag are high – if you pack light, you can carry the bag on the flight with you. If you do check in your bag, then make sure you take the essential items out into the bag you are holding onto. Essentials include your toothbrush, toothpaste, something to sleep in or wear, glasses or lenses – whatever you think you wouldn’t be able to live without during your trip if incase your bag gets lost.

8. Take a picture of your luggage

Sam notes Apple Airtags help you to know exactly where your luggage is. Always take a picture of your luggage incase of it getting lost. You will be able to use it as a reference and even use it incase of external damage and claim insurance.

9. Get travel insurance

This then goes onto getting travel insurance. With travel insurance, you will be covered on certain things so if incase anything does go wrong, you have the travel insurance to cover you on multiple things.

10. Know your rights regarding compensation

If you don’t get travel insurance, then at least know your rights! By reading the terms and conditions of the airline and airport, you will be able to build a case and understand who is in the wrong if you have to take the issue further.
