As the podcasting medium becomes more and more popular across the world, many media platforms are looking to capitalize on the rise of this form of audio content. According to Demand Sage, There are 464.7 million podcast listeners globally as of February 2023. It is predicted that there will be around 504.9 million podcast listeners worldwide by the end of 2024. It is for this reason that companies such as Spotify, Soundcloud, and Anghami are all optimizing their platforms to be able to host podcasts and make the user experience for podcast listeners much better. Video-sharing giant Youtube has just increased its stake in the podcasting game with the introduction of new features to help podcast creators in maximizing their reach on the platform.

New Updates

Firstly, creators will now be able to create podcasts directly in YouTube Studio which is a platform provided by YouTube where content creators may control their online presence, channel expansion, audience engagement, and monetary gain. Podcasters can now also designate an existing playlist as a podcast, which will help to improve the podcast upload and management process.

This will allow the app to put a larger focus on podcasts with upload processes and dedicated tools to help separate your podcast uploads from your video clips. This officially puts places Youtube on the list of platforms that are competing to dominate the rising podcasting industry.

Another new feature is Podcast Analytics. This will offer podcasters aggregated metrics across videos in a podcast playlist, insights on how viewers find one’s podcast, demographics, and revenue analytics.”

We can expect Youtube to roll out more updates for podcasters as more and more Youtubers are launching their own podcasts, leveraging the audience they’ve built from videos to bring attention to their audio shows. Youtube wants to keep all of these users on its own platform, so the continuing investment in the improvement of podcast infrastructure doesn’t come as a surprise, Youtube might even launch its own podcasting platform in the future.

It is also worth mentioning that Youtube will soon allow users to download videos, which will also help podcasters and creators in general.
