The Egyptian actress has been working to raise awareness around reproductive health for women in the MENA region.

Amina Khalil named United Nations Population Fund honorary ambassador

Last Monday, Egyptian actress, Amina Khalil was named an honorary ambassador by The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Khalil was recognized at the UNFPA’s ceremony that was held on Monday.

“Now it is time to act for women and girls everywhere,” Khalil expressed during her acceptance speech. “Bold steps to improve the lives of women mean a better future for children and families.”

The 32-year-old has been doing important work, advocating on issues such as women’s rights, reproductive health, and gender equality.

Khalil conveyed her gratitude in her speech saying,  “Let me first start off by saying how humbled and truly, truly grateful I am to be here, not only is it an honour but it is also a cause that hits home for me on so many levels. It isn’t an easy feat to conquer for anyone to begin to fathom what it’s like to be a woman in our society, unless you are indeed a woman.”

The actress shared her experience on Instagram saying, “I promise to do all I can on this journey to bring positive change to my country. I promise to wholeheartedly put all the effort I can to show women and girls that yes we have a voice, yes we have rights, and yes we all stand united.”
