The leading social media app Facebook followed by Instagram, have used their huge platform to raise funds for charities, foundations and personal causes through fundraising. As the community had come together throughout lockdown raising money to help those in need, Facebook also created a birthday donation feature. This allowed people to choose a charity or foundation close to their heart, and ask people to donate as a birthday gift through Facebook.
In an article by Facebook, they have stated that the total amount raised through Facebook and Instagram has been an astonishing $5 billion. This figure was calculated from donations that were collected globally through the two social media platforms to raise awareness, help support the community, fund medical research, fight for racial justice, and more.
