WHATSAPP CHATS CAN NOW Disappear AT YOUR CONVIENIENCE

Being an Influencer or working in media can mean endless hours of staying on your phone. Since most of content creation is posted via a mobile phone – conversations around them are largely carried via social media and communication platforms as such WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has seen its highest users drive from India, Brazil, Indonesia and the United States, according to Statista.

Research published in late-December 2019 by Northwestern University in Qatar found that three-quarters (75%) of nationals surveyed in seven nations across the region (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and UAE) used the service. Since 2017, their data has consistently found WhatsApp to have the highest reach of any social platform in the MENA region.

In light of data protection and cyber security, WhatsApp has decided that not all messages need to stick around forever. Deciding how long a message lasts should be in your hands. We’ve become accustomed to leaving a digital copy of just about everything we type without even thinking about it. It’s become the equivalent of a note taker following us around making a permanent record of everything we’ve said. This is why we introduced disappearing messages last year, and more recently a way for photos and videos to immediately disappear after being viewed once.

To get started, you can learn how to below:

Disappearing messages for your account

You can turn on disappearing messages by default for all new individual chats.

  • iPhone and Android: Go to WhatsApp ‘Settings’ > tap ‘Account‘ > ‘Privacy‘ > ‘Default message timer’ and select a duration.

Also note:

  • If a user doesn’t open WhatsApp in the 24 hour, 7 day, or 90 day period, the message will disappear from the chat. However, the preview of the message might still be displayed in notifications until WhatsApp is opened.
  • When you reply to a message, the initial message is quoted. If you reply to a disappearing message, the quoted text might remain in the chat after the duration you select.
  • If a disappearing message is forwarded to a chat with disappearing messages off, the message won’t disappear in the forwarded chat.
  • If a user creates a backup before a message disappears, the disappearing message will be included in the backup.
  • Disappearing messages will be deleted when a user restores from a backup.
