Billie Eilish Performs a Minimalist Version of Paramore’s ‘The Only Exception

At her Paris concert on June 10, Billie Eilish delivered an emotional performance by covering Paramore’s ballad The Only Exception in a stripped-down style.

At her Paris show on Monday night (June 10), Billie Eilish created a heartfelt moment for fans by performing a stripped-back rendition of Paramore’s ballad “The Only Exception” from their Brand New Eyes album.

During the first of two concerts at the Accor Arena, Eilish stepped away from her usual setlist to honor the emo-pop legends. Seated in a circle with her bandmates, she gently moved through the emotional tune as the audience quickly recognized the beloved 2009 track. A video of the performance soon made the rounds online, drawing praise and admiration from both fans and fellow artists.

This isn’t the first time Billie Eilish and Hayley Williams have teamed up. During Coachella 2022, Eilish brought Williams on stage to perform Paramore’s hit “Misery Business” along with her own song “Happier Than Ever.” The following year, in 2023, Williams returned the gesture by inviting Eilish to join her during Paramore’s show in Los Angeles for a performance of “All I Wanted.

Eilish’s Paris performance of the Paramore cover came halfway through her 25-song Hit Me Hard and Soft setlist — part of her tour promoting her third studio album of the same name. Released on May 17, 2024, Hit Me Hard and Soft is her third full-length album, following 2019’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and 2021’s Happier Than Ever. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Eilish previously topped the Billboard 200 with both her debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019) and her second album Happier Than Ever (2021). She also made history as the youngest artist to win all four major Grammy categories in a single night. On the Billboard Hot 100, she has charted 36 songs so far, with her breakout hit “Bad Guy” reaching No. 1 in 2019.
