The account @beauty.false on Instagram is dedicated to showing people the truth behind Instagram pictures to stop people from comparing themselves to unrealistic beauty standards. They post before and after pictures showing the use of photoshop and excessive makeup. However sometimes it can just be the angle at which the photo is being taken.
The account just recently reached one million followers on Instagram, proving that people around the world are interested in seeing how these influencers and celebrities are editing themselves to live up to a beauty standard that is not even real.
The message behind this account is to expose the popular accounts that regular women and girls constantly look up to, in order to show the truth behind photos, spread body positivity and to encourage self-love.
The account has posted pictures of photoshop fails, the actual photo vs. the one that was posted to Instagram, showing the cellulite, no airbrush effects, acne, wrinkles and more.
A slideshow was posted showing popular supermodels such as Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and more, with photos they have posted to their Instagram and paparazzi shots of them next to it. Showing that even the supermodels who are seen as “perfect” are human too and have imperfections that are not shown on their Instagram’s. The caption of the photo was “cellulite is normal! Love yourself.”
The main idea being spread is to show that not everything you see on the Internet is true, everyone, even the most famous models suffer from insecurities. @beauty.false exposes this in order to prevent people from comparing themselves to photos they see on the Internet that may not even be true.
