The First Emoji Pledge Campaign – which was created to support the UAE’s Hope Orbiter Mission – was a major success on social media. The campaign used hashtags #HopeForHope and #ArabsToMars and included 3 emojis:
The Palms Up Together Emoji: to symbolize support and hope for the mission’s success
A Rocket Emoji: to symbolize the Hope Probe
A Red Circle Emoji: to symbolize the Red Planet
The emojis were meant to convery the Nation’s pride in a way that fit the fun and light-hearted nature of social media. Over 60 Arab influencers and key figures participated in the campaign – with countless others on social media inspired to do the same.
This campaign is particularly noteworthy due to the magnitude of the Hope Probe Mission’s success: the UAE is now the fifth country in the world to successfully orbit Mars. The UAE is also the third country to achieve orbit on the first attempt – an impressive feat given that over 50% of flights to Mars fail.

On a deeper level, the campaign wanted to shed light on the perseverance and hard work of the Emirati people. This includes the 200+ Emirati engineers who worked tirelessly over 7 years to design, develop, build and program the Hope Probe.
Both the success of the UAE’s mars mission and the celebration of the UAE’s 50th anniversary makes 2021 seem like a very exciting year to look forward to.
In short – the UAE is very excited to be part of this moment in history and hopes their accomplishment inspires others to dream big – and potentially – out of this world.
