Social media’s leading content creators use podcasts to share more real and authentic content

Should you start a podcast? Well, Logan Paul, David Dobrik, and Addison Rae already have.

Many might know Logan Paul – one of Youtube’s most successful creators – for his slap-stick comedy and his outrageous, viral videos. But did you know that Logan Paul also hosts a successful podcast?

Paul’s Podcast – The Impaulsive Show – is ranked on Spotify’s Top 100 Podcasts List and is co-hosted by Paul, Mike Majlak and George Janko. Airing every Tuesday and Thursday, the show describes itself as the “world’s greatest, most thought-provoking, mentally stimulating podcast in the history of mankind … hosted by a bunch of idiots”.

Paul’s most recent episode –  titled Tom Dillon Roasts Joe Rogan, Dr. Fauci, and Dixie D’Amelio –  sees a cameo from comedian Tom Dillon who discusses “why Joe Rogan’s advice might get him killed, vendettas against Dr. Fauci and Dixie D’Amelio, why he’s leaving California for Texas, the post-covid world, his favorite cheeseburger spots, prepping for doomsday and more”.

Paul is just one of many influencers who is hopping on the podcast bandwagon. David Dobrik – a popular YouTube creator – also does a weekly podcast called Views that is co-hosted by Jason Nash. The two YouTube stars take listeners “behind-the-scenes of their vlogs to show what living the YouTube life is really like and confess their most intimate thoughts, discuss pop-culture, and dissect their own contentious relationships”. In his most recent episode, Dobrik surprises his assistant Natalie Mariduena with singer Halsey.

But it’s not just YouTubers jumping on this trend: Addison Rae, one of TikTok’s most followed creators, co-hosts the Mama Knows Best podcast with mother Sheri Nicole and aims to give listeners an authentic peek into Rae’s life as a social media icon.

It seems that creators like Paul, Dobrik, and Rae are using podcasts as an unscripted platform to discuss more authentic topics – such as their personal lives and issues that they and others face on a daily basis.

YouTube and TikTok – on the other hand – are being chosen more as the go-to platforms for creative [and often scripted] material. For creators who want a more dynamic range of content, it may be interesting to use this multi-platform approach in order to achieve this goal.
