#TRENDING MET GALA 2021

Who wore what, when.

#TRENDING MET GALA 2021

After almost two years, the Met Gala is returning to New York. This night is a celebration of the Costume Institute’s exhibition “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,”. We predict this theme was chosen very carefully by Anna Wintour as a moral boost to the United States after the COVID-19 pandemic. A sign of national spirit and well – reminding everyone on social media about ‘Making America Great Again’. This does not mean the guests have to wear a piece from a homegrown label, but their outfits had to reflect America’s gusty, adventurous sartorial spirit.

Kendall Jenner in Givenchy

Her crystal studded dress may not reflect a slogan or the colours of the American flag, but was inspired by America’s most loved actress, Audry Hepburn in ‘My Fair Lady’. Take a look at Givenchy’s modern touch on the timeless Hepburn. 125,128 viewers have liked this picture on @givenchyofficial. Her sartorial look has received massive recognition from fans over the internet.

Cara Delevinge in Dior Couture

“It’s about women empowerment, gender equality — it’s a bit like, ‘Stick it to the man,’” Cara suggested. The outfit caused a major stir on social media. “Cara Delevingne really said that,” one person tweeted. We are viewing 100,964 likes on Cara’s statement suit within 3 hours!

Kim Kardashian in Balenciaga

TMZ reports that Kanye West encouraged Kim to do the look. Multiple sources said, “he gave Kim the courage to push the envelope with creativity and people’s imagination through art”. Kardashian was joined on the red carpet by Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia. Her sartorial choice was the most… edgy amongst everyone who attended the MET Gala. It has received both backlash as well as appreciation for styling and ultimately her bold choice. Her post has recieved 4,123,435 likes and on-going within 8 hours!

Dan Levy in Loewe

Dan is a creator at Schitt’s Creek (show on Netflix) and this was his debut at the MET Gala. He bought light to Queer visiblity. “I think that has always kind of been what the Met has embodied—doing what you can do to send a message. It’s not just clothes, you’re celebrating the impact that fashion can have and culture,” says Dan to Vanity Fair.

Gigi Hadid in Prada

As Gigi says in the livestream, this design by Prada gives a little nod to the first ladies of America and the simplicity of American craftsmanship. The supermodel is a new mum and says she’s looking at things from a different light and would love for her daughter to see this go down in history. Gigi Hadid’s look has recieved 34,824 likes in less than 30 minutes, talking about #trending.

Virgil Abloh in Louis Vuitton

Just simple, plain “Modernism”.

Iman in Harris Reed

A perfect fashion statement to make – “Thank you to my Vogue family and to my real family, my mom, dad, and sister who had to listen and watch me year after year running around, wearing curtains and table cloths, pretending I too was at the Met Gala, walking up those steps, living my queer fluid fantasy. I sign this off with tears everywhere, gratitude radiating and complete disbelief of this moment.” says Harris Reed, a budding British-Amrican Fashion Designer.
