Over a year after withdrawing its desktop app, Twitter has announced it will be returning to Macs.
The decision to remove the app in the first place was fueled by the fact that the iOS app and the mac OS app were too disparate and it was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain both. Twitter recommended that it would be simpler for desktop users to access Twitter through the website.
Their return has been made possible due to Apple’s new Project Catalyst which was unveiled at their World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier in June, according to The Verge.
The project, as well as introducing new features to Apple apps, entails Xcode which enables developers to bring their iPhone and iPad apps over to the new macOS 10.15, Catalina.
The Twitter Support Team have tweeted that this reborn app “will be fully native, with all the native features of a Mac app. Multiple windows, window resizing, drag and drop, dark mode, keyboard shortcuts, notifications and more!”
They go on to explain how the project enables them to retain their massive codebase, which means the maintenance of the app should remain smooth and efficient.
The good news is you don’t lose any part of your existing Twitter experience, instead, you get even more features to enhance your user experience.
