Regional closures of nightclubs, beaches and public venues coupled with increasing numbers of people ‘working from home’ has unsurprisingly led to a rise in social media consumption in recent weeks.
According to a recently published A.List Daily article, US influencer marketing agency Ob.viously looked at over 7 million Instagram posts and found that there was a 76% increase in daily accumulated likes on sponsored posts from the second and third weeks of March 2020.
Overall Instagram campaign impressions also experienced an increase of 22% compared to the stats at the end of Q4 2019.
Additionally, a study performed by eMarketer revealed that the “The spread of coronavirus is likely to boost digital media consumption across the board as people spend more time at home and communicate in person less.”
As an increasing number of countries across the world continue to close their borders to travel, users are taking to social media to keep up with their friends and families abroad.
Also, the World Health Organization has taken to Instagram to promote the spread of factual information and has been regularly updating their channels to educate the public accordingly as the virus continues to spread worldwide.
