Meghan Markle calls U.S events 'devastating' in latest video

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has delivered a powerful and emotional address to the graduating class of her former high school.

The virtual commencement speech took place on Wednesday 3rd June and the Duchess ,who now resides in Los Angeles with her family, spoke on the very current events taking place in the U.S, calling the situation ‘devastating.’

In the video, she said that she is “so sorry that you have to grow up in a world where this is still present.”

“What is happening in our country and in our state and in our hometown of L.A. has been absolutely devastating. I wasn’t sure what I could say to you,” Meghan, 38, said. “I wanted to say the right thing and I was really nervous that I wouldn’t, or that it would get picked apart. And I realized the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing because George Floyd’s life mattered and Breonna Taylor’s life mattered and Philando Castile’s life mattered and Tamir Rice’s life mattered, and so did so many other people whose names we know and whose names we do not know.”

In the 6 minute address, Meghan recalled her time in high school and credited one of her former teachers ,Ms. Pollia, for changing her life. Meghan revealed that her teacher’s words “Always remember to put other’s needs above your own fears,” changed her life and she clings onto those words even up to today.

CNN has published the interview and viewers can access it HERE.
