Yeezys have recently been spotted at Adidas outlet stores in Dubai, selling for 50% off their retail prices. Boost 350v2 CMPCT, 380, and 450 are among the styles available at these reduced prices, starting at 479 AED (around $130) per pair.
The Rise and Fall
The Yeezy brand, created in collaboration between Adidas and Kanye West, quickly became a cultural phenomenon upon its launch. Known for their limited releases and unique designs, the sneakers often sold out within minutes and commanded high resale prices. However, the brand’s trajectory took a sharp turn in late 2022.
In October 2022, Adidas terminated its partnership with Kanye West following months of the rapper’s public criticisms of the brand and his antisemitic comments in interviews and on social media. This decision left Adidas with a significant amount of unsold Yeezy inventory.
Adidas’ Strategy for Remaining Stock
In May 2023, Adidas announced its plan to sell the remaining Yeezy stock, stating that a portion of the proceeds would be donated to organizations combating discrimination and hate, including racism and antisemitism. This move was part of the brand’s effort to address the controversies while managing its inventory.
