David Beckham queen in state

As Beckham, England, its Kingdoms, and the people of the Commonwealth process the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, thousands flock to Westminister Hall to see the late Monarch’s body lying in state to pay their respects.

Amongst the thousands in the crowd was former England football captain, David Beckham, who joined the members of public in a 13-hour queue. One among many high-profile celebrities who paid their respects, Mr. Beckham wanted to honor the late Queen on behalf of his royalist grandparents who he said would’ve queued if they were still alive.

While waiting in elegant British attire and manner, dressed in a black suit, navy coat, and flat cap, Beckham said to news reporters “how special it is to be here” and despite being in the queue for more than 12 hours, his “knees were OK,” though the same couldn’t be said for his back.

Beckham mentions the importance of togetherness and unity as they enter a new era under King Charles III

“We all want to be here together, we all want to experience something where we celebrate the amazing life of our Queen,” Beckham said.

“You know something like this today is meant to be shared together. So, you know the fact that we’ve been here. We’re eating Pringles. We’re eating Sherbet Lemons, sandwiches and coffee,” the football player continued, as he emphasises the importance of people coming together to form unity in a new era of leadership under King Charles III.

Beckham recalls how lucky he was to have met the Queen on a number of occasions, highlighting the honor he felt to play for the national English football team and receiving his OBE for services to football in June 2003 as part of the Queen’s birthday honors list.

“You know I always wanted to represent my country, to be captain in my country, and every time that we stood there when we wore those Three Lion shirts, and I had my armband and we sang, you know, ‘God save our Queen.’ That was something that meant so much to us.”

Not only did the famous footballer pay tribute to the Queen by standing in the long-awaited line and cold weather conditions, but he immediately took to 74.9 million followers in a post describing the great loss and sorry he felt when a pillar of Britain’s continuity passed.

The bend it like Beckham star, a royalist at heart and a patriot to England and its people – paid his respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II as an ordinary member of the public in honor of what she stood for thousands of people touched by her reign. May she rest in peace and #godsavetheking.
