The video that went viral has now been taken down as activists and those in horror watching the video complained it was unethical behaviour. As an endangered species, the great white shark is a protected creature in China, and therefore there has been a huge dispute about the events that occurred on social media.
Unfortunately, many people use social media for extreme entertainment which either involves risking the influencer’s life or someone else’s. What people do to entertain others does increase views, likes, and reach, making these channels popular, generating revenue for the influencer, and therefore making them carry on doing certain things that may be unheard of… like eating a shark.
Tizi, a popular Chinese vlogger, is known for her Livestream viral videos on Douyin and Kuaishou eating rarely eaten animals in a large wok with spices. Animals she has consumed are ostriches, crocodiles, and other rare animals. However, in her recent video, Tizi went too far by marinating and cooking a great white shark before feasting on it to all her followers.
Police are now investigating the footage that has caused outrage online as she is seen tearing chunks of the great white wildly with her teeth. In China, great whites are listed as protected but Tizi claims she acquired the shark legally. The facts and videos that are being circulated around the world, however, show something different.
Do you think Tizi’s profile should be taken down? She has 8 million followers who are uncertain whether they will ever watch Tizi’s videos again or if enough is enough. Let us know your thoughts by tweeting us @itpliveme.
