Only a few days after this acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion, Elon Musk has already set his eye on a new target. On Wednesday night, Musk jokingly tweeted that he intends to purchase Coca Cola; however, his reasons are what played a main role when it comes to the tweet’s popularity.
As it is stated in the previous tweet, Tesla’s CEO is interested in reintroducing cocaine, which is not only a prohibited ingredient but also a hard drug, into the soft drink. So far, the idea has gotten more than 4.5 million likes and 680K retweets, giving a glimpse of people’s acceptance of his ideas.
Many users reacted to his tweet giving him ideas to buy other companies for ironic reasons; nonetheless, a particular reply stood out from the rest. Twitter user @PPathole responded to the joke by including a photo of the first publicly-sold bottle from 1894 which contained 3.5 grams of cocaine before being replaced by caffeine in 1903, adding the caption “Bring it back.”
Amid all the Twitter fiasco, one cannot but wonder if there is some truth to Elon Musk’s words; after all, he did foreshadow his successful Twitter acquisition in 2017 in an exchange with comedian Dave smith and look at where that got us. At the end of the day, Coca Cola boasts a market cap of $284 billion, which makes us less surprised to know that Musk, whose own fortune currently stands at $253 billion, could be considering it as his next project.
It can be said that the tech entrepreneur, who has been very active on Twitter lately, has really been putting in efforts to make Twitter a place for free interaction, with him responding to tweets from followers and also joining in on established and trendy conversations with his entertaining tweet about McDonald’s broken ice cream machines.
