R&B Rules
This summer R&B is taking over the charts and our hearts and everyone is ready for it. Super stars Brent Faiyaz and Steve Lacy are making their mark on 2022. Here is a break down of their incredible new albums so you can get listening.
Brent Faiyaz – WASTELAND
Brent Faiyaz is 26-year-old artist from Columbia, Maryland. Rising to the charts in 2016 on Gold Link’s album, Brent has since gained a following and collaborated with artists such as Kanye, Drake, Tems, Tyler the Creator and Baby Keem.
This is his second album ever and features some of his greatest hits like “Gravity” and “Dead Man Walking”, singles that have topped the charts.
WASTELAND opens with clips that address his reputation and leads into an album about honesty, answering questions about purpose, and confuses it’s audience with it’s hazy line between fantasy and reality. An R&B master piece.
The album includes 3 skits along with it’s tracks portraying a devastating turn events in a relationship, accompanied by songs about getting someone back as well as keeping the fire of romance flaming with toxicity.
If you’re looking for a chill album that leaves you thinking, this is the album for you.
Steve Lacy
Steve Lacy began gaining traction and recognition in his high school band The Internet. The 24-year-old grew up in Compton in Los Angeles. After going solo, Lacy was originally a producer for top artists like Kali Uchis, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller and J. Cole.
Gemini Rights is Steve’s second studio album ever including his hit single “Bad Habit” that has been trending on TikTok since it’s release, attracting Steve a lot of traction for Gemini Rights, pushing him up in R&B charts.
When asked about the intentions for this album, Steve said he hoped to write about his emotions connection to an audience where there is no barrier. He is ‘people’ just as much as everyone else and knowing that made the album very easy to write for him. If feelings are the only real things, he wants to love unconditionally.
It’s easy to see that his goals were met, as this album is a form of musical time travel if there ever was one.
