Firstly, did you know that World Social Media Day existed? This is an annual event that happens every year on the 30th of June celebrating the world of social media and the impact of its existence.
Before we begin, make sure you add your picture to our latest Instagram story of the first picture you posted on the first social media app you ever downloaded!
According to two sources, 4.2 billion people are on social media across the globe showing how much of an impact it has on our everyday lives. You may use it to connect with friends or family, or you may use it as a photo or video diary, or for work as an influencer. Whatever it may be, social media has changed the way we live our lives and has opened up many opportunities for us.
Every day it is evolving and new features are always added to social media apps in order to make sure that it is safe and secure to use. Even parents manage social media accounts for their young children who are hitting over 1 million subscribers on their channel.
We should use social media for good
It goes without saying that if you have an impactful voice with your social media following or have a high engagement rate, then you should use your voice to give back to society. Although this sounds like an expectation, it actually helps to build a good reputation around social media for jobs, and why it is used.
By spreading positive awareness, raising money for a cause, or highlighting the importance of a particular subject on your page, it makes the audience or your viewer think, talk about it or pass it on to a friend, like a domino effect.
Using it for good could also mean that you can connect with others to help your business. There are many small businesses that use social media to market their content and therefore we should help them to gain awareness. Helping others, means we are supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs who are trying to make a positive difference.
A source of information
If we are spreading awareness of a business or brand, we are sharing some source of information with someone else. Social media is an amazing way to learn different things that are happening in the world, or tips, tricks, and hacks that you never knew you needed to know.
It can help you to create an informed decision about buying a product if your favourite celebrity or influencer is using it, and gives you more insight into how it works. Have you ever seen something on social media that made you go and buy a product? We have all done it! It is a great way of marketing for a business as well as for the consumer who is buying as you get to look at reviews on the internet.
Negative effects of social media
In one of our latest articles, we did comment on the effects of social media having an impact on our mental wellbeing. Too much time spent on social media could lead to depression and does make us compare ourselves to others, causing a lot of anxiety. It is important to take breaks from social media and remember that not everyone’s life is as perfect as it may show online.
Although social media can be a way of connecting with others if you’re feeling isolated, it is also the cause isolation if not used correctly.
Trolling, and cyberbullying is also a common theme on social media which a lot of the platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, and others are trying to tackle. They do this by blocking certain words or allowing the person to hide comments, protecting themselves from any hateful or nasty comments.
Conclusion
We are thankful that social media exists as it has now, more so than ever, it has opened many doors for businesses and individuals as a way of marketing themselves and building a source of income.
