Creating engaging, unique content shouldn’t come at a price, especially when the consequence is death. Instagram influencer Sophia Cheung who has 41.5 thousand followers on her platform loved to share posts on hiking, kayaking, exploring new places, showing outdoor activities, and captivating photography.
Originally from Hong Kong, Sophia’s posts were blue. Whether it was up in the blue sky, or down in the turquoise blue waters, it was her, her camera, and mother nature.
Unfortunately, Sophia’s adventures came to an end when she attempted to take a picture by the Tsing Dai beautiful waterfall situated in Hong Kong. After exploring the area with her friends, by 5 pm, Sophia began to set up her camera for her next Instagram post. As she stood to take the picture, the influencer slipped off the edge and fell into the 16-foot pool with a depth of 5 meters. Her friends immediately called the emergency services line after watching the traumatic event unfold, but were announced dead soon after she arrived at the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.
The destination that Sophia had visited with her friends is a popular location for hikers to visit. Being aware of your surroundings, and cautious is important when shooting anywhere. Hikers are aware of the risks that come with trekking in tricky locations, and therefore it is important to research more into the area for your own safety if you are a daredevil.
One of Sophia’s friends uploaded onto her own Instagram page a heartfelt long message. The message began with telling her followers how she finally had the courage to open the album and look through the pictures with her and Sophia. She also told her followers how Sophia had inspired her to explore showing the impact her social media page had on others.

- If you are a daredevil and enjoy going on a risky adventure, train yourself first so you know the safety measures in case of danger to yourself or anyone else
- Research into your location – know everything about where you are going and don’t just go blindsided into a place you have never been before
- Don’t just do it for social media – if it means you will be risking your life, then don’t just do it for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or whichever platform you are trying to grow. Your life is worth more than a few likes and followers
