What was Messi doing in Saudi Arabia?
As an ambassador for Saudi Tourism, Messi was asked to travel to Saudi Arabia to undertake some commercial work, a request that PSG management denied.
Messi traveled to the kingdom anyway and now faces a 14-day suspension by the club. During this period, he will be banned from playing for or training with his PSG teammates.
This is not Messi’s first time in Saudi Arabia, this time, however, he avoided the big cities and went to explore the kingdom’s nature. He visited an authentic Saudi farm where he and his family witnessed an oasis filled with beautiful palm trees.
Saudi Arabia‘s palm trees produce over 1.5m tonnes of dates annually and Messi’s family enjoyed feeding and playing with gazelles on the farm.
The Argentinian superstar documented his trip to more than 450 million followers on social media, stating “Who thought Saudi has so much green? I love to explore its unexpected wonders whenever I can.”
Early this week, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al Khateeb welcomed the football superstar to the Kingdom.
In a message on Twitter, he stated: “I am happy to welcome Saudi Tourism Ambassador Lionel #Messi and his family on his second vacation in Saudi.
“We are happy to share our authentic Saudi welcome with you all”.
I am happy to welcome #Messi and his family to Saudi to enjoy the magical tourist destinations and authentic experiences.
