Just a few days after it started to loosen its password-sharing rules, streaming juggernaut Netflix attracted close to 100,000 new sign-ups.
According to market research firm Antenna, since notifying US subscribers that it would begin to curb password sharing on May 23, Netflix has had the four single largest days of user acquisition. The article stated that “based on the most recent data available, Netflix saw nearly 100,000 daily sign-ups on both May 26 and May 27.”
Average daily sign-ups to Netflix reached 73,000 during that period, a more than 102 percent increase from the prior 60-day average.
In addition, Netflix saw a rise in cancellations following its crackdown on password sharing.
The ratio of sign-ups to cancellations has increased by 25.6% from May 23 compared to the prior 60 days, the research said.
Password sharing is now strictly prohibited by Netflix, and each additional user outside of your home will now incur an additional monthly fee of $7.99. And a Netflix account is only meant for usage by one family.
The streaming company declared that it will start cracking down on password sharing in the US.
Every member of the household is able to access Netflix wherever they are, whether they are at home, traveling, or on vacation, and they can benefit from new tools like Manage Access and Devices and Transfer Profile.
Up to two additional users may be added by those who purchase the Netflix Premium bundle with 4K streaming, but each one will still cost an additional $7.99.
For each additional member, Netflix in the UK will charge users 4.99 pounds per month.
There isn’t currently a way to add more members to the cheapest plans, Basic or Standard with Ads, which cost $9.99 and $6.99 per month.
