Netflix X Ubisoft Games

On its official Ubisoft Forward Livestream, the Ubisoft team announced their latest business expansion by welcoming collaborating partner Netflix onto a virtual stage for the release of new games. Mike Verdu, Netflix VP of games, announced sequels to the games of Valiant Hearts and Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, as well as another Assassin’s Creed title.

Didn’t know Netflix had its own gaming section?

The streaming giant has been slowly tapping into the gaming market for over a year now offering mobile games for streaming customers since November 2021 on the mobile app version. The initial big launch of Netflix games included two Stranger Things games, which are based on the popular Netflix Original hit tv series.

Although Netflix’s gaming section has not yet made any big waves on the game market nor has drawn any popularity or famous gamers towards any of their initiatives, maybe this collaboration is exactly what they have been waiting for. As Ubisoft has been a close partner with Netflix during its journey into games, which includes releasing Stranger Things DLC on Far Cry.

What should Netflix subscribers expect?

Subscribers can expect the release of three separate Ubisoft franchises exclusively for Netflix: Valiant Hearts, Mighty Quest, and Assassin’s Creed. While the information that we know at the time is still very limited, Verdu did give some hints of what viewers can expect. Firstly, to all Netflix subscribers the games would be free but what makes it interesting versus other streaming game platforms is that there would be no ads or irritating controversial microtransactions.

The first we can expect to be released is the sequel to Valiant Hearts, which is set to be available in January 2023. Mighty Quest will follow with its release later on in mid-2023. Unfortunately, as most highly anticipated there’s no officiate date yet for the Assassin’s Creed title.

According to Netflix, Valiant Hearts 2, which is the successor to Ubisoft’s original Valiant Hearts: The Great War is currently being developed by the same programmers that was behind the original. Nominated as the best World War 1 adventure game, the inspiration behind the game came from LucasArts. One thing that we know for sure Netflix and Ubisoft did not disclose was whether the sequel will follow a WW1 setting or follow with a World War 2 theme. Most probably keeping it a secret for themselves, it does create some anticipation and excitement about what’s to come.

What we know so far regarding the other two sequels is even less, but Verdu did say that the launch of Assassin’s Creed would be under a new title and the release would coincide with the launch of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Netflix live-action TV series. All the games can be available to play on the Netflix app for smartphones, that’s available for download from the App Store or Google Play.
