President Obama

What makes the docuseries so great?

Higher Ground, Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, created an epic five-part series narrated by the former president that invites viewers to celebrate some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes, national parks, and wildlife throughout the world.

The wildlife scenes featured in the episodes were captured over more than 1,500 days of filming. Over the three years of culminating different scenes, the production team launched 33 expeditions, exploring national parks in 10 countries on five continents.

Every episode, each an hour long, focuses on a different part of the world’s unique geographic landscapes, indigenous wildlife, and plant life from the specific region. Undoubtedly one of the most well-explained and educationally informative series, the beauty of the docuseries lies in the use of brilliant cinematography that not only leaves viewers wanting more but is highly engaging throughout each episode.

The pilot episode focuses on a variety of different countries as they attempt to provide an overall introduction for the rest of the episodes and what’s to come. From Africa’s beaches to Japan’s islands to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef the series puts the natural world’s untamed beauty into gorgeous focus. Diving deeper into countries such as Chile, Kenya, the US, and Indonesia.

Besides the fact that the 44th president of the United States got involved in television, and nonetheless won an Emmy, it just complements his character, values, and goals for being known as an outspoken environmentalist so well.

Barack Obama is one of the only presidents in US political history to support efforts to battle climate change and environmental issues. He initiated The Climate Action Plan, which is an environmental plan that proposed a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. It included preserving forests, encouraging the use of alternate fuels, and increasing the study of climate change, but was unfortunately undone by former president Donald Trump.

President Obama believes that “no challenge poses a greater threat to our children, our planet, and future generations than climate change – and that no other country on Earth is better equipped to lead the world towards a viable solution.”

Here are the 5 things President Obama’s done to battle environmental issues:

  1. Cut carbon pollution
  2. Expand the clean energy economy
  3. Led global efforts on climate change
  4. Set national rules and regulations to protect the climate, air and water
  5. Prepared communities in the US for impact of climate disasters by providing aid and relocation support beforehand and afterwards

That’s why under Obama’s leadership, the United States has done more to combat climate change than ever before while growing the economy. In fact, since the President took office, carbon emissions have decreased by 9%, while the U.S. economy grew more than 10% in the same period.

Continuously using his voice and platform to initiate change, education, and pro-activeness within the U.S and beyond, finding innovative ways to connect with the public and inform them creatively through imagery, storytelling, and emotional impactfulness is what truly makes Obama an inspirational figure in modern society; deserving that Emmy 100%!
