DTC and RTA introduce new innovative approach to monitor public travel safety in Dubai

Dubai to use AI to monitor public transportation 2023

In a bid to improve public transportation and ensure the safety of passengers, Dubai authorities have implemented artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor and manage thousands of public utility vehicles and their drivers. This innovative approach encompasses a wide range of vehicles, including taxis, limousines, school buses, commercial buses, and delivery bikes, with approximately 7,200 vehicles and 14,500 drivers now integrated into this smart system.

Dubai’s newest initiative

Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), an entity under the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is at the forefront of this initiative. The DTC’s control center is equipped with advanced AI capabilities, enabling it to gauge the demand for public transport services effectively. By doing so, it assists the authority in identifying areas in need of taxis and public vehicles, making the transportation system more responsive to the city’s needs.

Safety tracking

The safety of students and their punctual transportation to schools and homes is a top priority within this AI-driven system. Specifically, this involves monitoring 1,000 school buses, tracking trip progress, maintaining student information, and observing driver behavior. If necessary, immediate alert services are provided to address any concerns, ensuring the well-being of the young passengers.

The monitoring extends to the operation of 5,200 taxis, which are crucial for 24/7 service availability. The control center supports taxi drivers, addressing their needs and directing them to areas with high demand. It also assesses daily vehicle movement efficiency and analyzes data to enhance performance, ultimately meeting the expectations of customers.

Technological upgrade

One of the central aspects of this AI system is the meticulous observation of drivers’ compliance with guidelines. Additionally, the center closely tracks the routes of vehicles to guarantee the overall safety of transport operations. This comprehensive approach not only ensures the safety of passengers but also optimizes the efficiency and effectiveness of Dubai’s public transportation network.

Dubai’s use of AI to monitor and enhance its public transportation system demonstrates the city’s commitment to providing safe and efficient transport services for its residents and visitors. This innovative approach serves as a model for leveraging technology to improve urban mobility and passenger safety.
