Snapchat web is coming – what does this mean for the UAE?

New Snapchat update alert.

Snapchat

The new Snapchat update will allow you to carry on your conversations straight from your computer.

According to the latest Snapchat newsroom article, ‘332 million people open Snapchat on their phones’ allowing users to connect with one another and share their everyday life stories with their community. The latest update will allow users to now use their phones and their desktops to be able to communicate with one another, just like how we use WhatsApp.

The new web format can be found on web.snapchat.com using Chrome to start a call or pick up a chat that you were having on your phone. ‘100 million Snapchatters’ on average use the voice and video call a month, and therefore this has highlighted the impact Snapchat has on users around the world.

Where will it be launched?

The new web service will be available to Snapchat+ subscribers in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and will be soon arriving in France, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the UAE before the rest of the world.

The team however has noted that they are not sure when it will be launched in the UAE and Saudi as it has not yet been announced.

Ease of use

The service is created for user ease and an answer to users’ enquires. As it is very new, there will be more news released in the coming weeks regarding sending pictures and more. When it comes to privacy and security, there is a two-step verification from the mobile app to ensure protection against any uncertain accounts or hackers.

Snapchat’s growth in the MENA region

As Snapchat is rolling out its latest service, this means the UAE will reap the benefits sooner than everyone else too. Hussein Freijeh, the General Manager of Snap Middle East and North Africa said “We’re focusing on augmented reality developers to allow them to create an experience and monetise them. We’re hiring local talent in Saudi Arabia to make sure we get more understanding of the culture and bring the nuances across the board.” He continued to say “The GCC is one of the most engaged communities for Snapchat globally, with a wide community of creators and potential partnerships in the advertising market to help drive revenue.”
