Threads: New features include editing posts & more

Check out the latest updates coming to Threads this week

threads updates

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday that an edit feature and voice notes are coming for its Threads platform.

You can now edit posts on Threads

One of the most requested features for Meta’s Twitter-like social media application Threads is now rolling out, with users getting access to an edit option, which will enable them to edit their posts for up to five minutes after publishing.

The time limit exists due to a long-time resistance to providing full editing capacity to short-form posts, as the meaning of the original can be drastically altered by even minor changes. To counter this problem, X, formerly Twitter, gives users the ability to check and see an edit history: the original tweet, vs. the edited tweet. That’s one advantage X still has over Meta’s application.

Edited posts can be identified through the small symbol next to the timestamp, as seen below. Clicking on the icon will show a pop-up that says “This post has been edited”, but no history or access to previous versions.

To edit a post on the application, just select the three dots on the top right of the post. An option to edit will not be available, along with a timestamp to show whether 5 minutes have passed or not.

Introducing voice notes on Threads

Additionally, the application is also rolling out audio messages, a feature Meta is calling “Voice Threads”. Just as audio or voice messages work on other messaging applications, this feature will appear as a soundwave-looking attachment within a post. Clicking on the play button will allow users to hear the audio snippet.

Additionally, while users listen to what a user has posted, the text of what they say is highlighted in the post as they say it. Pretty cool!

Meta has steadily been adding features since the launch of the application earlier this summer, including a chronological following feed, a web client, and the ability to search for posts, all to help with their declining engagement.

While these are minor changes, the social media platform by Meta will continue to update the application, as it still needs much improvement.
