TikTok trend alert!
The viral trend of “millennial core” has taken TikTok by storm, showcasing snippets of millennials behaving stereotypically in a humorous compilation. This emerging genre of intergenerational mockery features individuals displaying cliché and cringeworthy traits associated with the millennial generation. From using dated slang to pulling over-the-top faces or speaking in an exaggerated, silly voice, these clips have become a source of entertainment for many users.
What is Millennial core?
October saw a spike in “millennial core” films, some of which had millions of views, as the fad picked up steam. On October 15, a well-known TikToker shared a video that received a lot of views. In it, different footage was pieced together that allegedly embodied the “millennial core.” The TikTok video attracted 3.5 million views and over 7,000 comments about how ‘cringe-worthy’ they were, including a woman calling Taylor Swift a “smol girl” and another gushing about how pleased she was about her IHOP order.
Millennials won’t stay silent…
Interestingly, millennials have started to clap back at the trend. In early November, @mindingmytime, a self-described millennial, posted a video incorporating clips from these montages while appearing to mock the trend. Despite receiving hundreds of comments, some pointed out that she inadvertently created a “millennial core” video, adding a meta twist to the evolving narrative.
This generational humor has become a focal point on TikTok, with Gen Z comedians like Mark Gaetano satirizing millennials in viral videos. Even “elder millennial” Iliza Shlesinger joined the conversation, calling for unity between Gen Z and her generation, gaining significant support.
