WhatsApp is introducing several new chat aspects, in order to increase engagement and contextual awareness.
This could lead to individuals interacting with messages in different ways.
Two major updates have been revealed.
Firstly, WhatsApp is introducing single-vote polls, which will let users limit how many answers each conversation member can submit in response to a poll question.
According to the social media giant,
“We’re providing the option for poll authors to allow individuals to vote just once, for when you require a clear-cut response. Just uncheck the box next to “allow multiple answers” while creating a poll.“
What’s expected is that this could result in more insightful poll results that could clarify discussions in group chats.
Users will now be able to search for polls within a chat by filtering messages through polls, in a similar fashion to how we can currently search for photos, videos, and media.
Secondly, when sharing a picture with a description, WhatsApp is also upgrading its sharing choices to give users the choice of keeping, deleting, or rewriting the caption.
Additionally, you can now forward photos and videos with captions, which may help to add more context to posts you share in your chats.
Finally, while sharing documents in a chat, you can now also add captions.
According to WhatsApp, all of these new features have started to roll out to users worldwide as of May 4, and will be accessible to everyone “in the coming weeks.”
