Desktop Messenger officially Launched by Facebook on Mac OS and Windows

Originally Facebook launched its Messenger desktop app in selected markets earlier last month.

However, now it has been announced that Facebook will be rolling out the tool fully, thus making it available for both MacOS and Windows for all users worldwide, according to Social Media Today.

“Now more than ever, people are using technology to stay in touch with the people they care about, even when physically apart,” Facebook says. “Over the past month, we saw more than a 100% increase in people using their desktop browser for audio and video calling on Messenger. Now with apps for MacOS and Windows, the best of Messenger is coming to desktop, including unlimited and free group video calls.”

There has been a spike in the demand for video conenction tools. Houseparty’s downloads have grown 735x in March, while Zoom has gone from 10 million users in December 2019 to 200 million in March 2020, according to the latest report from App Annie.

Facebook has also seen an increase in demand for video messages. In a recent update regarding the platform’s efforts to keep its systems running amid this rising demand, Facebook did note that video calling on Messenger and Whatsapp has more than doubled in recent week, according to Social Media Today.

Messenger desktop was originally announced to be in the works in May 2019, this tool has been in development for some time now and will cater to various, specific uses for users, according to Social Media Today.

Users can download the new Messenger desktop application in  in the Mac and Windows stores starting today!
