As more people are spending their time on social platforms during the COVID-19 lockdowns, Facebook has added a new option called “Quiet Mode” which helps users manage and control their Facebook usage.
Facebook has also revamped the listings of “Your Time on Facebook” so the app could provide users with more information as to how they have been spending their time in the application, according to Social Media Today.
“As we all adjust to new routines and staying home, setting boundaries for how you spend your time online can be helpful,” Facebook explains. “We’ve added Quiet Mode, which mutes most push notifications, and if you try to open Facebook while in Quiet Mode, you’ll be reminded that you set this time aside to limit your time in the app. We’ve also added shortcuts to Notification Settings and News Feed Preferences, so you can make the most of your time on Facebook by controlling the type of posts you see in your News Feed as well as the updates you receive.”
This Quiet Mode option will allow users to either switch on Quiet Mode right away or set up a schedule for when users would want Facebook notifications to stop popping up. This could be helpful for users looking for a way to clearly define their time, according to Social Media Today.
Users who have turned on ‘Quiet Mode’ will not receive notifications from the applications and the red dots that appear on the application icons will not appear on the Facebook icon on the device as well.
It is important to note that even though notifications will be muted, some won’t be – such as privacy updates and “legally required alerts” which will still come through even during the quiet period, according to Social Media Today.
Facebook has been providing a variety of options to control users’ notifications for some time now as it has been including specific settings for the red dot alerts; however, Quiet Mode covers all aspects of notifications in one simple tap of a button thus making it easier for people to set aside free-time specifically for Facebook, according to Social Media Today.
