Facebook will allow most of its employees to work from home forever

This will continue even after ‘Work from Home’ orders are lifted

Facebook will allow most of its employees to work from home forever

Previously, we announced that Twitter has allowed most of its employees to work from home ‘forever’ even after lockdowns are lifted.

This week, Facebook has made a similar announcement, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying that “most employees” will be allowed to work from home moving forward, beyond the current COVID-19 lockdown period.

As reported by The Verge, Zuckerberg has said,

“We need to do this in a way that’s thoughtful and responsible, so we’re going to do this in a measured way. But I think that it’s possible that over the next five to 10 years – maybe closer to 10 than five, but somewhere in that range – I think we could get to about half of the company working remotely permanently.”

This is an interesting development as Facebook employs almost 50,000 employees globally.

If anything, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown just effective working from home can be and we expect that many other companies may follow suit even post-pandemic.

As cities start to look toward the future, over-crowded offices and morning traffic may be things of the past as companies will inevitably gear up to adapt to a ‘new’ world.
