Do you love books? At the end of June, TikTok introduced a #BookTokChallenge partnering up with Barnes & Noble and their creator community to bring back summer reading in a very unique way. The hashtag which will be going on until the end of August encourages those who are on TikTok to read new books, encourage others to read, and share their reactions using the #BookTokChallenge hashtag.

The purpose of the campaign is to build ‘on our community’s spirit of creativity and collaboration to harness the power of books to help people expand their minds through reading.’ With the expansion of digital media, the TikTok collaboration with Barnes & Noble will drive customers to their website just by scanning a QR code taking them directly to a #BookTok hub. “We are looking forward to exploring these new avenues within TikTok,” said Michele Laikowski who is the Head of social media for Barnes & Noble.
The hashtag has already received 40 million views on TikTok with #BookTok receiving over 62 billion views. Under the #BookTokChallenge, it says ‘Whether its an old classic you haven’t read in a while or a new recommendation from a friend, join the #BookTokChallenge and let us know what you’re reading!’

The reason why this new hashtag has such a big impact is because of the social influencer TikTok has on the world, as well as the educational factor it’s spreading. As new initiatives are introduced on social media platforms, trends allow people to get involved and try something they have never tried before. If you have been on TikTok and have no interest in dancing, but know it’s a current trend, so got up and danced, you did it right? Was it fun?
