Snapchat fans, this one is for you!
Last week Snap, Snapchat’s parent company, launched Lens Studio – a desktop app that lets anyone create their own augmented reality lenses for Snapchat.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise as Snapchat was the pioneering social media platform in popularizing augmented reality amongst story fans.
We know many creative fans will be excited to play around on Lens Studio.
So…How does Lens Studio work?
If you’re looking to create your own augmented reality lens for Snapchat, you will need to first design an image or 3-D creation in another design app or program, like Adobe Illustrator. Then, save it onto your desktop and download Lens Studio.
Once you’ve uploaded your artwork into the app, you will then be able to add movement patterns and animation triggers to your design.
From there you can submit your design to Snapchat. Once approved, you’ll get a Snapcode that will allow you to share your augmented reality lens with your friends and followers.
The Lens Studio website also offers templates and guides for aspiring creators that need a bit of help.
Overall, Snap has done its best to support all aspiring lens creators in bringing their augmented reality ideas to life on Snapchat.
Lens Studio is currently running a January 2018 contest where designers can submit their artwork for a chance to win prizes – including a feature in the Lens carousel on Snapchat.Â
It’s also worth noting Snap will moderate all submitted designs, in order to ensure all creations are appropriate and safe for Snapchatters everywhere.
Lenses can’t depict violence, weapons, nudity, sex acts, profanity, hatred, stereotypes, illegal activity, hashtags, usernames, threats, bullying or encourage Snapping while driving
