It may not be the “most beautiful time of the year” for singer/songwriter Justin Bieber as he tells his 270 million followers on Instagram not to buy his H&M merchandise as none of the products were approved by him.
What are the accusations?
Justin Bieber took to his Instagram story to tell his followers that the merchandise produced by H&M was not approved by him. In two split stories, he said:
“I didn’t approve any of the merch collection that they put up at H&M .. all without my permission and approval SMH I WOULDN’T BUY IT IS I WERE YOU.”
He continued to say “The H&M MERCH THEY MADE OF ME IS TRASH AND I DIDN’T APPROVE IT DON’T BUY IT”
What was included in the collection?
@jbiebertraacker posted on their Instagram page the merchandise from the website which included a white sweatshirt featuring a collage of Biebers pictures as well as a matching tote bag. The products are seen to be sold as part of Biebers “World Tour” merch that was cancelled due to Justin’s health problems. It was also reported by the platform that a phone case and sweatshirt printed with the “Ghost” lyric “I miss you more than life” was also included in the collection.
Beiber also commented on the post saying “When everyone finds out I didn’t approve any of this merch smh🤦♂️”
Legal Matters
As of now, Justin Bieber has voiced his concerns of the collection over his social media channel but has yet to file a case and take any legal action. We are unsure of whether he will take legal action, but post the Kayne West scandal with Balenciaga, it seems as though it may be heading that way in order for brands to understand the importance of correct marketing and internal procedures.
H&M has not yet spoken on the matter, however, discussing the matters internally without involving social media for now.
