In November, YouTube announced new policies for its content creators, more particularly its gaming content creators. Due to these new policies, more creators have been facing demonetization. The policies focus mainly on decreasing gaming violence.
To The Gaming Creators of YouTube
YouTube left an extremely specific list of new rules especially for gaming content creators in November when they announced the new policies. The main aim is to crack down on the profanity and violence shown. While some games may be fine with these new policies as long as the creators abide by the rules, many games are likely to not be monetized at all. Content displaying violence, or realistic portrayals of dead bodies will get the content demonetized. There are also new rules for sexually suggestive or controversial content, graphics, or dialogue.
In addition to this, swearing has also been limited. The new rules state that “all varieties of profanity are now treated equally meaning they are not differentiated based on levels of severity.” While words like “hell” and “damn” are not taken as profanity anymore other cuss words will be treated as such. “Content, where profanity is used after the first 8 seconds, may receive ad revenue. However, if profanity is used in the first 8 seconds of the video, then it will not monetize.”
