Apple accuses Instagram for overheating iPhone 15

Is Apple or Instagram to blame?

Apple blames Instagram for Overheating iPhone 15

Since the release of the iPhone 15, users have reported online that their phones have been running warmer than expected. Bloomberg reported that an unnamed Apple spokesperson specifically blamed Meta’s social media platform Instagram, and some bugs in the iOS 17 system.

Apple’s iPhones are getting hot

According to Apple, newly bought iPhones have a lot of post-transfer background processing, causing overheating issues in the smartphones. Apple also blamed apps such as Instagram, Uber, and unspecified bugs in iOS 17 that could cause the phones to “run warmer than normal.”

Apple also says that no safety risk is involved in regard to the thermal issues. However, other factors, such as USB-C power adapters with high watts can make a phone warmer than an iPhone user might be accustomed to.

The latest iPhone 15 smartphones have come with some big changes, including the new A17 Pro chip, and the use of titanium in its frame’s construction. The A17 chip is the iPhone 15’s biggest selling point as it makes it possible for the phone to run graphics-intensive games, however, with battery issues, this no longer seems a possibility.

New iOS 17 update

Yesterday, Apple released a new software update to iOS 17 that “addresses an issue that may cause iPhone to run warmer than expected.” The update, called iOS 17.0.3, is available as an over-the-air fix in the software update section of the iPhone settings app.

The release note also says that the update “provides important bug fixes” and “security updates”. The update was also released for older iPhones as well as iPads.

With the new titanium build, there had been some speculation that hardware was behind the overheating issues, but Apple’s statements tied the issue mostly to the software, in addition to heating that could happen with USB-C charging outputs.

Only time will tell if the new software update will resolve the issues faced with battery temperature.
