Snap Inc. today introduces Home Safe, a new opt‑in safety feature built into Snap Map that allows users to notify trusted friends when they arrive home safely without typing a message or checking in manually.
Overview
What it is: Home Safe is a one‑time automatic alert sent via chat when a Snapchat user arrives at their registered home location.
Purpose: Designed to ease the burden of “I’m home” messages and reduce worry for friends and family, especially after late evenings or solo outings.
How It Works
Set Home Location Tap your Bitmoji on Snap Map, select “My Home”, and save your address. This location is only ever visible to you and the friends you choose to share your live location with.
Activate Home Safe for a Trip When heading out, open a chat with a friend you already share your location with, tap the Map icon, then select the “Home Safe” button to enable the alert Arrival Alert Sent Automatically Once the app detects you have arrived home, it sends a one‑time notification in your chat.
The alert then deactivates automatically it must be manually turned on for each new outing.
Privacy & Security
Location sharing is turned off by default no one can see your location or receive Home Safe alerts unless you enable it.
Alerts are sent only to existing Snap Map location‑sharing friends, so users retain full control over who receives them.
Context & User Impact
Snap Map now serves over 400 million monthly users, making it one of the most widely used location‑based social tools globally. Home Safe builds on Snap’s existing safety tools including Family Center, which allows parents to receive alerts when a child leaves school or home.
