Is Instagram Taking A Page Out of TikTok's Playbook?

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery… or is it?

With the rise of TikTok and short-form video, Instagram is working hard to keep up with the new social media platforms on the block – and their most prominent, successful features.

The photo, video and Story-sharing platform is rolling out a new Stories feature that looks very similar to another up-and-coming short-form video platform.

According to Social Media Today, Reels is now available to Brazilian users, the new feature will soon allow users to shoot and edit a 15 second video clip with music in the background.

The feature is available to users in the tray with Boomerang and super zoom options. The 15 second clip can be posted on to the stories with option of keeping it public or to close friends. Users can select music from a huge catalog of music or can simply borrow audio from a video recorded by other users.

According to TechCrunch “Reels” was launched exclusively in Brazil on Nov 12 (it’s called “Cenas” in Portuguese) and is an excellent market for the social media platform to test out the new feature, as it has a big Instagram population with individuals who have a deep interest in the music culture and thriving content creators.

Will Instagram’s new “Reels” feature be rolled out worldwide any time soon? Only time will tell.

Needless to say, we’ll still be keeping a close eye on our Stories features for any updates that might be rolling out for all users sometime soon.
