Think Twice Before Copying Someone on Instagram

Instagram has the best of intentions when it comes to upping its safety practices on the platform – and this includes rolling out a third party, fact-checking policy on certain types of content.

According to TechCrunch the platform has started “…alerting users that the caption they’re about to post on a photo or video could be offensive or seen as bullying, offering them a chance to edit the text before they post it.”

The image- and video-sharing platform will use image matching technology to find additional copies of false content, they will then go on to apply the same label, and do this across Facebook and Instagram content.

The app update, however, does not apply in case of politicians. That means their content will not undergo any fact checking even if their content is inaccurate.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has maintained that, if political ads are banned it could hurt challenger candidates in need of promotion, and that it would be tough to draw the lines between political and issue ads, as reported on TechCrunch.

What does this mean for the average Insta-user? If you’re thinking about copying someone else’s caption, think twice before doing it.
