“Move over to this side!” a common statement you’ll hear while taking a picture for the ‘gram. Every tourist destination has these sentences on repeat wherever there is a flock of people. Elegance and etiquette master Anna Bey even suggests in one of her videos that a cluttered home reflects in your pictures. That suggests a cluttered mind and way of living.
And if you’re looking to ace your photo skills, just cleaning your room is not enough. No – it doesn’t mean you have to take pressure and move into a nicer house all together or feel like your current one is not good enough, – rearranging a couple of things strategically can make a huge difference in the state of your house, and eventually the background of the picture.
Take a look at a few items that can amp up your pictures for the ‘gram:
Pampas Grass:
‘It girls’ everywhere are losing it over this trendy $15 plant. It started trending in 2020 during the lockdown when in-home selfies were a big thing. Pampas grass is a tall grass that can reach a height of 3 meters. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in some parts of the world and is considered an invasive species in areas outside its native South American range. When dried, the feathery flower head plumes are used in flower arrangements and other decorative pieces.
Candles:
The ‘headless woman’ trend (as I’ve taken to calling it) is a possiblity of three things: the proliferation of visually pleasing and accessible feminist messaging around self-love and body positivity, the millennial aesthetic of rounded edges and organic shapes, and the rising interest in home decor, with a particular Instagram-trained eye on vases and candles. After the immense and fairly recent popularity of pots and cushions with boobs drawn on them, it seems like the logical next step.
Wall of things (bags, mainly)
This is by far the easiest and quickest way to cover up any mess and guarantees you an elegant picture.
Paintings
Bonus if you’re an art lover, you’ll probably have old canvases lying around in the house from when you were giving art a ‘try’. If not hand painted, frames are always the way to go!
Pillows and throw blankets:
Another simple way to make a tiring day work in your favour is by throwing a cute bright blanket on your sofa for adding a few colour coordinated pillows.
